Let’s get down to it. There are literally millions of products you can buy to wash your face with, all claiming they will beautify, anti-wrinkle, tone, cleanse, remove redness, unclog pores, etc… the list goes on. I’m not going to lie, it took me a really long time to figure it out what worked for me. I spent stupid amounts of money on skin care products that have left my skin worse than before using them. I would buy products and that would make me break out, and (being me) I was too stubborn to actually stop using the product so I would keep using it until it was done anyways. Smart? No. Stubborn? Yes.
I decided that I needed to take all the unnecessary steps out of my face wash routine. All I really needed to do was remove my makeup and clean my skin so it could breathe at night. Simple. This took me back the basics of staying fresh and clean, a good old fashioned bar of soap. Yup, just a simple bar of soap.
Considering that I have THE most sensitive skin ever (its so annoying, trust me) there are a few key things I look for when buying a bar of soap to cleanse my face with.
What to look for:
1) No perfumes. They irritate your skin like there is no tomorrow, and if we are being real 99% of perfumed soap smells kinda sketchy anyways lol.
2) The soap needs to be hypoallergenic. This means the product causes fewer allergic reactions than other products (according to whoever makes it.) There are not really any standards to show how hypoallergenic a product is, but generally speaking it should be less likely to irritate your skin.
See?! Simple! All I do is wash my face with this once night and in the morning (and obvi moisturize after,) and my skin looks the best it ever has! This is what works best for me, what is your skin care routine? I would love to hear about it in the comments below! 🙂
x,
hey 🙂 I use Dove, I love the liquid version too, try it 🙂
Oh nice! Good to know the liquid version is good too 🙂
This could actually be the solution. Going back to the basics. I’m going to try.
How well does it remove eye makeup though ?

Ya it has worked great for me! It removes the majority of makeup, but sometimes I will use a little makeup remover around my eyes to get anything off that it didn’t. 🙂
Dove soap is always the best for sensitive skin. I love the clean smell, and use it when all my other products are gone!

It is definitely great for sensitive skin!
Looks like a great product. I just use a cleaner and if I wear makeup I use wipes to get it off.
You literally took the words right out of my mouth. I think going back to basics and the naturals is the best solution when it comes to skin like ours. I have such sensitive skin and spent so much on cleansers and i always broke out. I still break out now but it’s nothing like before. I use a soap bar too, it’s made of olive oil and it has definitely helped my skin. Keep a look out for an upcoming post about it on my website. This was a useful post!

Its so annoying sometimes to have sensitive skin! But once you find something that works its great 🙂 I can’t wait to read your post on the olive oil soap, that sounds awesome! x
First of all, I love your pictures! But I have found this method to be the best as well. Dove might be a better solution for me, so I will try it: my soap seems to make my skin a bit dry… Thanks for this post, I like the “back to basic” concept and feel it is the best too!
Yea the Dove Beauty Bar I use is made with 1/4 moisturizer so it doesn’t dry out your skin! (In my experience) 🙂
Dove seriously is the best. I use it every day and absolutely love it.

Ya its great! 🙂
I don’t use Dove, but have spent years getting my skincare regime perfect for my skin so can totally relate! best SPF moisturizer for sensitive skin is Olay sensitive SPF 15 – it doesn’t contain the binders which cause break outs like most SPF moisturizers!! Also http://www.acne.org/ is a great place for information on products & ingredients

Thats great to know! I am always nervous to use moisturizer with SPF because I know it can cause breakouts. Thanks so much for the tip about Olay! I want to try it now haha 🙂
i love dove, they are such a great company with great products.
Agreed!
Thank you for sharing! In the morning I use micellar water and a bio moisturising cream!

My friend has perfect skin (like you) and I was shocked when she told me she just used Dial soap before bed! I’m using a Chanel cleanser right now but might try regular soap after it runs out just to see. I’d def love saving that $$, thanks for the idea!

Like you I’ve found that regular soap typically works best. I follow it with a toner or serum and a rich moisturizer though so I don’t exacerbate any skin irritations.
Yes, too true! I used to use so many chemicals on my skin but have since worked out simple is actually best, and so much more effective. I’ve found the oil cleansing method to work best for me, my personal favourite is coconut oil – it makes my skin super soft AND eliminates all the nasty, skin-drying chemicals that are typically in cleansing products and soaps.
Hey Jessica! I have found the same when it comes to washing my skin. Keeping your cleansing routine simple is key!
